Sharing Time March 2014 Week 3: Jesus Christ was resurrected, and I will be too.

Preparation:
Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Identify the doctrine:  Jesus Christ was resurrected, and I will be too. Prepare to have the children listen to or sing, "Did Jesus Really Live Again?". Prepare the word strips, "Jesus Christ was resurrected, and I will be too" see printable below.

Help the Children Understand the Doctrine: Gather these pictures: Crucifixion, The tomb, The Resurrected Christ

Help them apply the doctrine in their lives: Prepare the name tags and scripture cards, see printables below. To prepare the name tags. You can either have them hold the name tag or you can punch some holes and string some yarn through them, so they can hang down from their neck.

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin sharing time by having the primary children listen to the song, "Did Jesus Really Live Again". Ask them to pay attention to the words of the song, because it will help them to be able to answer some of the questions during sharing time. When the song is over, ask the children what the song was about? Hopefully answers will include something about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and that we will be resurrected someday also.

Tell the children that you would like their help putting together this week's theme.  Have the word strips to, "Jesus Christ was resurrected, and I will be too." Before hand cut the words apart and have them scattered out of order on the board.  Ask one of the primary children to help you try to put the words in order. When they are in order ask the children to repeat the theme with you.

Ask one of the primary children to come up and hold the picture of the crucifixion. Give a brief description of the crucifixion- explaining that Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross, where he would allow himself to die for each of us.

Ask another primary child to hold up the picture of the tomb. Explain that when Jesus died his body was wrapped in linens and placed in a tomb. Ask the children if they remember from the song they listened to earlier, how many days had passed before Jesus rose from the tomb?  The answer should be three.

Ask a primary child to hold the picture of the resurrected Christ.  Explain that when Jesus was resurrected his body and his spirit was reunited, never to be separated ever again.  Tell the children that we know that Jesus was resurrected, because of the many witnesses in the scriptures.

Invite four children or teachers up to the front of the room.  Give each of them a name tag of whom they are going to be representing. Explain to the primary children that we are going to listen to some of what these witnesses have said about Christ's resurrection.  Either have them read the correlating scriptures or you read them.

Mary Magdalene- John 20:11-18

Thomas - John 20:26-29

A Nephite - 3 Nephi 11:13-17

Joseph Smith - Joseph Smith—History 1:17

Explain to the primary children that, because Jesus Christ was resurrected, we will someday be resurrected too.  Explain to the children that, "Resurrection is the reuniting of the spirit with the body in an immortal state, no longer subject to disease or death...

'At the time of the resurrection, we will “be judged according to [our] works. . . . We shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, and have a bright recollection of all our guilt” (Alma 11:41, 43). The eternal glory we receive will depend on our faithfulness. Although all people will be resurrected, only those who have come unto Christ and partaken of the fulness of His gospel will inherit exaltation in the celestial kingdom." (Topics:Resurrection-lds.org)

Bear your testimony about the Jesus Christ's resurrection and how we all will be resurrected someday, also.

  3. Thank you! I will be teaching this lesson to our little bi-lingual primary. I appreciate the simplicity and the idea to involve the children. One prop I will add will be a glove to help them understand the concept of resurrection (re-uniting the body with the spirit like putting the glove back on your hand). The more visual aids, the better!
