Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest. On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

Family Home Evening Instruction:

In Primary for February, the children have been learning about "Jesus Christ is My Savior and Redeemer".  This would be a great opportunity to review with your children what they have learned throughout the month.

Begin by telling this story:

"Jordan and his friends went to the local swimming pool.  As soon as they got there his friends jumped in and started swimming to the deep end of the pool. They were splashing and swimming around. They yelled for Jordan to jump in and join them.  Jordan was a little afraid, he wasn't very confident in his swimming.  He really wanted to join his friends though, so he jumped in and started to swim towards his friends.  When he was a couple feet into the deep end, Jordan began to panic.  Because he began to panic he stopped swimming and began to sink.  The life guard who was watching, noticed that Jordan was in trouble and he quickly jumped in and swam to Jordan. When he reached Jordan he placed a flotation devise around him and swam with him to safety."

Who saved Jordan?  (Answer: the life guard); What did the life guard save Jordan from? (Answer: drowning).  We have someone in our lives that saves us from the things we do wrong, who is this person? (The Savior, Jesus Christ).  Just like the life guard the Savior is there when we need him, to give us the flotation devise of repentance and help us to return safely to the path that will lead to our Heavenly Father.

To Review about Jesus being our Savior and Redeemer, play a flotation devise toss game.  Here are the instructions to play:

A family member will be given all of the paper flotation devices.  They will try to toss it or frisbee it into one of the bowls.  (If it is difficult to get it inside the bowl, you can decide that it just has to hit the bowl)  The bowls will be labeled 100 pts, 200 pts and 400 pts.  What ever bowl they toss their flotation devise into first will determine which question they will be asked.  Continue with each family member and until questions run out. (See printables above)

You can take score and who ever receives the most points will get a prize like a package of Lifesavers, encourage them to share with the rest of the family just like the Savior.

After the activity explain that just like a lifeguard saves others from drowning, Jesus Christ saves us from our sins and from death.  He has done this through His atonement and resurrection.

Invite family members to share their testimonies or thoughts about Jesus being their Savior and Redeemer in their life and close by sharing your testimony.

Close with a Family Prayer.

***After playing the game I would suggest that you print the flotation devises on card stock and them also glue them onto a cereal box or card board to make them more sturdy and give them a little bit more weight. ***
